British Shorthairs are descended from Roman cats crossed with native English wild cats. Modern British Shorthairs also contain some Persian strains, which have resulted in thicker coats. British Shorthairs became popular in Australia in the late sixties and seventies. British Shorthairs first competed in a cat show in 1871. British Shorthairs come in many different color combinations, perhaps the most famous being the British Blue.
